I am not having a peaceful holiday

I Am Not Having A Peaceful Holiday
    Alen J Salerian MD

I still hear their voices. The despair, the agony of entrapment. The moans  of torture.
They were not just patients they were friends and I was their trusted physician.
MS a retired surgeon, a gentle  soul  -who had over nine months tried Betty Ford  and a few other fancy rehab centers- had stopped by my office for her farewell.
MS had casually mentioned her anticipated move to New York City. She had euthanized her pets. This was a red flag which should have alerted me to her underlying message . She said,” sooner or later they are going to take you down. I don't have a life now, I only have perpetual misery. You had given me life . And you will never get your DEA license back.
It is equally difficult to block out the restrained fury in NJ’s voice when he had called from Aspen Colorado . He was pleading with me to find a new psychiatrist . He was attending a methadone clinic yet his mood had plummeted.
His roommate would later tell me that the change in NG was dramatic. The day of his death in a small cave on the mountains they had gone to a local emergency room. NG was desperate and suicidal. He requested hospitalization. He was sent back to his methadone clinic.
I will not forget the eulogies expressing the extraordinary kindness of DS an African-American woman aged 57 who had been my patient for over a decade.  She  had suffered from severe depression and pain and had done well.
A week before her death we spoke by phone Her voice was frantic interrupted by sighs and sobs. She was calling  from the Washington Hospital  Center. She wanted to know whether I could visit her.  I asked her to trust her doctors . I let her know  that I did not have privileges at the hospital center.
Paul Mullins called my office hours before his self-inflicted death on the anniversary of the loss of my DEA license. A year is a long time to wait for someone in severe pain he had said. No one would prescribe appropriate pain relief for this retired coal miner.
I'm not  at peace this Christmas. Their voices coming through Christmas carols and Hannaka lyrics. Echoes of man-made atrocities.  The voices of collateral damage from the war on drugs.

2ND LETTER TO STEVEN KENNEDY

Dear Mr. Steven Kennedy

I have not heard your response to my letter of December 18, 2014. What do you wish I convey to the families of victims of premature death prompted by your grief? Please help. Merry Christmas and happy peaceful 2015.

Respectfully

Alen J Salerian MD

PS: Many people wish to talk to you.  Should they try to reach you at the World Bank ? Or should they contact your friend Mr. SABAR at Washingtonian first?

What the DC board of medicine did not know

  December 24, 2014

What did the DC Board of Medicine not know when they revoked my license?
I would like to inform the public that the DC Board of medicines decision to revoke my license was made possible by human errors.
The board began to investigate my practice because of three complaints by two physicians and a pharmacist that I was prescribing excessive amounts of controlled substances . Dr. David Katz, Dr. Michael Fratkin and pharmacist Shane Miller in writing  alleged malpractice by me. Their personal statements were written on an official form which indicated that any misrepresentation in the complaint would be perjury according to the laws of the District of Columbia. The fourth complaint filed by Mr. Stephen Kennedy a senior consultant to the World Bank asserted that I had killed his son Patrick by inappropriately prescribing methadone.
After a lengthy investigation the board revoked my license.  The Board members expressed their opinion that Patrick’s death well justified their decision.

  What we know today

A grieving father was masterful in persuading the board to overlook evidence-based medicine . A major error by the Fairfax County pathologist had wrongly attributed the death  to methadone overdose. Later ,two expert cardiologists and an independent pathologist concluded that Patrick was most likely a victim of a rare almost fatal congenital cardiac disease and unrelated to his treatment under my care.
Two classic textbooks -Harrison's principles of medicine and Goodman and Gilman therapeutics -further offered evidence to indicate that both the dosage and the blood concentrations of methadone were consistent with standard guidelines .
Were the members of the board aware of the information from Harrison's principles of medicine or Goodman and Gilman therapeutics? I know for sure they were not aware of the three independent expert opinions exonerating me in the death of Patrick Kennedy. They said so openly and repeatedly during the last hearing.
I'm equally sure that the board members were unaware of other inconsistencies. Such as the paper trail evidence that the first three complainants committed perjury by misrepresenting essential facts. Furthermore, Shane Miller was personally prompted by Dr. Jacqueline Watson the executive director of the board of medicine to file a false complaint.
Was prejudice against people with mental illness a factor? No patient input was obtained . No patient complained. No patient testified.
Could something like this happen to a patient with an eye or skin problem? Is it rational to investigate a physician based upon complaints by third parties with very limited clinical knowledge  and at the exclusion of feedback from the most crucial person, the patient?
What I've learned
Trust but validate. I trusted my lawyers to do the right thing. They dropped the ball. I did not realize the key information about the expert cardiology consultation was never communicated to the board. I did not assert myself sufficiently to demand that
the 4 liars-Dr. Katz, Dr. Fratkin  Mr. Miller Dr. Watson-be cross examined .
My fatal error was to listen to my lawyer and not to address the specific medical evidence of Patrick Kennedys death in the last hearing. I had my chance to talk directly to the board. I didn't. Instead I let my lawyer hand my medical license away.

I hope others would benefit from  my pain.
I would appreciate any help finding a lawyer who would  on a contingency basis take legal action against a few bad apples .

A letter to future unborn physicians

    December 21, 2014
    Dear Physicians Yet Unborn

Merry Christmas. Happy Hanukkah. Happy 2096.
This is unsolicited advice from a physician  who practiced in Washington DC for 40 years.
Medicine is a noble profession but it has its own risks.
Starting with first day of your practice put aside half of your income for legal funds. I painfully learned that even spending $5 million was not enough.
You must have  pr help.  Do not wait until bad things happen, for it would be too late. Once you have been wrongly declared a menace  your life will change .
Then comes the fear factor: the fear of contamination . You will be abandoned by friends , relatives, colleagues and the rest .
You will realize you have been thrown under the bus.
The more you protest, the more you scream the worst  will happen . Abyss  will shadow you. You will be forced to listen to your despicable crimes against humanity and worst your loved ones will  raise questions rooted in lies.
Don't shout back , do not try to convince anyone of your innocence. Be a man. Be a doctor .
Realize this is not about you. You must worry  about your family.
You must say, I'm sorry. Say I'm such a fool for having been so evil.  Suggest you receive1000  daily whips for 1000 days. Donate your tongue and heart  to an organ bank.

You see my dear unborn physicians, being a doctor is a privilege. The privilege and joy of healing and the pain that may come with it.

NEW slaves in America:mentally ill

Our New Slaves In America:  people with broken brains

We call them homeless not that they had become homeless because of mental incapacitation.
We imprison mentally ill behind bars or force them to unscientific groups when they suffer from  problems with compulsive  use of substances.
We recruit young minds to join our covert military operations so that when they commit crimes they would be forever remembered as mentally unstable loose cannons. Do you remember Lee Harvey Oswald or Sirhan Sirhan?

We manipulate statistics  to make us believe our number one public enemy is drugs and  substance addiction. How about depression, bipolar illness , ocd, schizophrenia and addictions that are the root causes of all addictions.
