  A visit to Istanbul is also an extraordinary journey to Armenian and Greek history.
   Hagia Sophia , Garabet Balian’s  Dolmabahce Palace or Mimar Sinan’s (Joseph from Gesaria) architectural wonders will welcome you in Istanbul where modern museums exhibit the works of Ara Guler, KristIn Saleri, Aivasowskyetc. You will be mesmerized by the charming princess Islands (Proti, Antigoni,Prinkipo) and may even be surprised to discover  a little park named Hrant Dink in Kinali (Proti).

Mimar Sinan (Joseph –Hovsep) the chief Ottoman architect  was born in 1491 in a small town called Ağırnas near  Kayseri (Gesaria). His Armenian background is documented by a decree- by Selim II dated Ramadan 7 981 (ca. Dec. 30, 1573)- which grants Sinan's request to spare his relatives from  exile to the island of Cyprus.
   Sinan woud later be instrumental in the migration of 500 armenian families from Gesaria to Rodosto (Tekirdag) to help build his masterpiece in Edirne: Selimiye mosque. Of significance many other accomplished  Armenians from Gesaria include  Balians, Gulbenkian, Salerian, and  later from Rodosto, Rupen Sevag ,Onnig Chilinguirian and Kristin Saleri .
