Shingles Fear And Profits
Fear is
a great motivator. Fear sells. Fear makes people pay attention and remember.
Perhaps that's why we have been bombarded by commercials urging us get
vaccinated against shingles. Grotesque looking raw skin lesions and hints of
blindness are difficult to ignore.
But does
honesty matter? Medicine says blindness from shingles is extraordinarily rare.
The volcanic sores of shingle commercials mislead the public because only in
rare instances they occur and in general mild discomfort associated with
shingles vanish in four weeks.
The issue
is honesty. We all want to make money. Greatly magnifying fears is neither a
credit for the pharmaceutical companies nor for the advertising industry and
media.It erodes trust.
