myAlzheimer's dog -SALERIAN POEM

My Alzheimer's Dog

My beloved dog
 Gus Mr. unhappy
Grumpy looks
Wrinkled face
Bored very bored
‘Go read a book
Jog around the house
Watch television
Stop the sad looks’
I command
Then look
In the mirror
Disgusted I feel
I look like Gus
Gus doesn't change
We visit our vet

Methodical
Meticulous
Tough questions
Place time memory
What I ate
When I began feeling this way
Why troubled by boredom
Wrinkled face
Grumpy looks
 I lose patience
Slap the man
Demand answers

“I ‘ve bad news”
The doctor says
“ Problem is not Gus
Problem is you
You're brain
Youre confused
The dog is you
Your sick brain
Here is a pill

For Alzheimer's’’

 Brother

Who?
Who is?
Who is good?
I say
A man
A good man
A friend
 Who, why, how?
From what kingdom?
From what  tribe family genus species?
A man from Ararat exploring oil in Texas
Never bitter under siege
Building bridges
Quantum discoveries
Healing wars
Compassion action and grace
Yes grace
Grace is you brother
You are the man
You
A brother

A great man

My Kunta Kinte Blood
ALEN J

SALERIAN MD

 Proud to watch
My kunta kinte blood
Marry an Appalachian
Make babies
Lots of them
On Virgin Hills
Name them
Immigrant names
Strange sounds
Shock  them
Rock them
Till
Kunta howling
Then only then
Color them
Red and blue
Love them

jfk and jr AND A SHIPA Ship On A Mountain
ALEN J Salerian MD

A passenger on a boat
Life is passing by
A traveler on board
I’m watching waves
She is moving north
Slowly crawling
Cimbing descending
Steep rugged hills
Aren’t supposed to be on a boat”
A young voice asks
“What is this mountain?”
“Let Captain take us
Drive us to glory”
Dad answers
“But boats don't last long
On mountains
I want off “ mother screams
I'm watching my dreams
“I'm scared “the boy says
“Captain knows best”
 A lawyer asserts
The ship is cracking
Rush of water
And dread
I'm awake
Thank God
It's a dream
Reminiscent of my life

Einstein Says Your Brain Is An Electrical Factory

Einstein trusted his prefrontal cortex more than his vision realizing human senses could alter our perception of reality. Human brain is  an electrical factory  that produces energy products of senses pain  and thoughts.
Both clinical and neuroimaging evidence suggest in depression and schizophrenia both associated with decline of prefrontal cortex function there is diminished production of emotions and thoughts. Interestingly the same thing is true for chronic pain. Chronic pain causes thalamic decline of energy metabolism and less production of pain.
What is the take-home message?
Our brain is an electrical factory an add and unnerving thought but true.
