Mentally Ill Under Siege And The Unnerving Silence Of Psychiatry

Mentally  Ill Under Siege And The Unnerving Silence Of Psychiatry

There are times when silence could be toxic.
Times like 1915 Istanbul or 1939 Germany when horrors struck the minority doctors and the organized medicine watched in silence.
Nowadays it is the deadly silence of Autism society or American Psychiatric Association when a young man with autistic spectrum disorder being wrongly portrayed as a mass murderer that is toxic.     Who is supposed to defend the victims of autistic spectrum disorders being masqueraded as mass murderers?
And how can we explain the equally disturbing silence of organized medicine when psychiatrists are profiled and prosecuted as ordinary drug traffickers?
     Criminalization of medicine is barbaric.
There is no civilized country on earth that practices what we do in America. Why don’t we criminalize surgery or practice of law? What if we imprison attorneys, judges and surgeons for human failures resulting from their profession?

As doctors, lawyers, judges, newspaper reporters we all face a major challenge nowadays: to believe our leaders and the media or respect evidence-based medicine and defend science and helpless victims of dogma.
