Max Planck And Einstein Viewing Our Brain
Alen J
Salerian MD
Mechanical analogies of human brain and behavior are ubiquous. The observation that brain function is like a
car with multiple parts working together
has been a popular example yet remained an analogy until the recent publication
of an unusual discovery: emotions and thoughts are energy products and act like
electricity(1). Feelings and thoughts are emitted by a step-by-step process the
same way Max Planck theorized radiation was produced . Interestingly once born
, feelings and thoughts travel like electricity.
Quorum sensing- a relatively recent discovery of cellular communication
and how a group of luminescent bacteria light up only with a minimum number of
cells-seems to be crucial for brain function and in production of feelings and
thoughts.
Further evidence in support of
feelings and thoughts as energy product come from
neuroimaging studies. When thought
production drops the energy load of prefrontal cortex –the main factory of thoughts – drops.
What is the take-home point? Human
emotions and thoughts are eigenvalues, are real physical and invisible.
In general, we humans have greater difficulty to appreciate invisible physical
forces versus things we can see. The invention of microscope made it possible
to appreciate bacteria after thousands of years of blame of unnatural causes as
responsible for bacteria induced catastrophes.
This recent discovery may be a
new fascinating microscope to study brain function.
