Beauty of pain
Alen j Salerian MD
Pain rules life. But there is more .
The extraordinary benefits of pain are correlated with progress. The examples are many but I will
mention my favorite top 6:
1.
As an alarm of trouble in a body part warning us
take corrective action.
2.
As a teacher not to repeat the same mistake.
3.
As an enhancer of memory; the more painful the
longer-lasting.
4.
As a promoter of resilience; the more exposure
the greater resilience.
5.
As an enhancer of intelligence; the more
challenging the better problem solving .
6.
Promotes teamwork and social quorum sensing to
more effective problem-solving against natural or man-made menaces (earthquake , genocide)
What
Is Pain? Light And Electricity
Pain is electricity emitted like
radiation and generated by quorum sensing of brain cells.
Bonnie Bassler was
the brilliant mind who made the discovery of quorum sensing-fluorescent
bacteria lighting up only with a minimum number of bacteria-a paradigm useful
to appreciate pain and brain function.
When a minimum energy of sensory input
is registered by a minimum number of sensory cortex brain cells pain is born,
light goes on, we feel pain. It is fascinating to note that our brain cells imitate
luminescent bacteria. Of course one might say this is no different than what
occurs with nonliving cells to gather minimum energy to move an object from
point A to point B or to explode a bomb.
When
it comes to pain the rules are the same
for living and nonliving things. Put enough force with enough energy and the
minimum number cells together to make bombs ,to make bacteria light up or
elicit human suffering.
