Primmum Non Nocere Pain DEA And FDA

   Treatment of pain ,depression ,ADD and addiction is a dangerous field when” Primum Non Nocere” is practiced vigorously.

 And why?  Because often less than vigorous and time sensitive intervention might result in destructive outcome.

   For instance when we fail to treat chronic pain it causes brain atrophy and damage. Ineffective treatment of addiction or ADD may lead to social and criminal problems; divorce unemployment imprisonment. There is a fascinating Swedish study showing the efficacy of stimulants- amphetamines like drugs reducing antisocial – criminal outcome. Untreated  depressions do lead to brain atrophy, premature death and suicide.

   And why do all of the above findings matter for all of us?

  Because the treatment of most depressions, addictions ,ADD and chronic pain often require controlled substances governed by FDA and DEA.

  Bless their hearts but neither FDA nor DEA  care about therapeutic outcome or a sick person finding relief from pain  or preventing premature death . Their mission is prevention of harm from treatment. Their mission is not healing.

  Who then defends individual rights for appropriate treatment?

  Individual doctors and victims of mental or physical pain  and nowadays they are no match for the  powers of DEA and FDA.

   What's the answer? Education education education. Let us educate DEA and FDA. They are us. They and their relatives get sick too.
