Divorce Without Divorce-DWD
Perhaps not
surprisingly some already dead marriages may remain legally alive for a long
time.
Social,
financial and psychological factors may delay a logical terminationn of a dysfunctional
marriage.
Often maintaining
a bad status quo may feel more comfortable than the almost always
more unnerving choice of the unknown.
What are the signature traits of DWD?
§ Chronic
disagreement on major social issues and realities.
§ Chronic
dismissal of spousal opinion without cause.
§ Chronic
active absence of love, affection, intimacy and positive input.
§ Chronic
negative response to the spouse’s major source of joy.
§ Chronic
absence of sensitivity to the spouse’s idiosyncratic wishes or flaws.
The above are common symptoms of chronic
intellectual divorce or divorce without divorce. The signs and symptoms of DWD
are subtle not as easily observable as the frequent causes of divorce: physical or verbal abuse, deception etc.
There are no red flags in DWD.
DWD does not automatically mean pursuing divorce.
Recognition may become a catalyst for further examination of unexplored conflicts and may lead to solutions.
