Questions For CDC Chief
Dr. Thomas Freiden
§ What is the scientific
evidence for blaming prescription pain medications for an epidemic of heroine
addiction? How do we know whether this is an association or causation*?
§ What is the scientific evidence for blaming
prescription pain medications for an epidemic of deaths from overdose? How do
we know whether this is an association or causation?
§ Why is there such a
disproportionately high emphasis to publicize an epidemic of deaths from
heroine versus little or no CDC effort about deaths from suicide when
significantly higher percentage of people prematurely die of suicide (12.6 for
suicide 3.1 for heroine per 100.000 population)?
§ In view of the fact that
almost all addictions are complications of various psychiatric disorders why is
CDC so passive in informing the public of the current epidemic of rising deaths
from suicide?
*Association
and causation are not synonymous. For a causative association statistically
valid evidence must be shown.
