Does football cause concussion and brain damage

Does football cause concussion and brain damage?

The endless debates about whether football may cause brain injury are not well justified. Will there ever be an argument about potential damage to an iPhone or watch receiving a vicious hit?
Somehow our national discussions about concussions- and various high risk sports that allow or promote head strikes- have shifted toward analyzing diverse influences that seem to contribute to individual differences in the final outcome: brain damage. This is silly. If 100 people jump from the fourth floor not all 100 would have identical injuries. Some  may survive with minor scratches. No one however would argue that jumping from the fourth floor is not harmful.
Any activity that may let a fragile human brain become a target for strikes is harmful. It is harmful because our skull is not made of steel and cannot fully protect the brain against the shocks and vibrations, that come with direct hits.
The shockwaves from each strike disturb and disrupt the fragile homeostasis of brain function.

It is time for us to consider banning any activity that makes  a fragile brain an appropriate target for strikes.
