Progress In Asylums
Since Bedlam
Alen J
Salerian MD
February 20, 2015
There seems to be some progress in asylums from 1814 England to 2014 America .
James Norris was chained
to a pole in his cell at Bedlam in 1814. Once a photo was published showing
Norris in shackles the public uproar led to the resignation of Dr.Thomas Monro the principal physician at
Bedlam. Some bad things continued for a while . Such as, for profit organized
tours of caged patients on weekends and holidays. The paying visitors would
watch shackled people behind bars occasionally poking patients with sticks to elicit a hostile
response.
I was not chained to a
pole at FMC Butner in 2014. For days I was in solitary confinement with one hour
of light and 23 hours of darkness. I slept naked in my urine and feces. My anus
and testicles were inspected visually not poked. I was caged outdoors but no
visitors came by.
The progress in asylums is real. from 1814 Bedlam Dr. Monro
lost his job . Not my FMC Butner doctors.
